cbd oils for pets health

CBD products have become very popular dietary supplements in Ireland over the past few years. It seems like every day there are more cannabis products on offer to people willing to give it a try. CBD products represent a naturally derived alternative to many medications in use which treat a variety of health issues, both in humans and animals.

As a natural anti-inflammatory CBD combats inflammation and the associated issues that can come with it. For many people in Ireland, this easy-to-use alternative is a more affordable and healthy way of relieving a variety of symptoms. Thankfully CBD can also be used by pet owners for their pets.

Research studies and clinical evidence is available online to potential consumers of CBD. Feedback in terms of product reviews, stories of positive benefits, use, results and clinical trials undertaken all project positive vibes for the future of CBD.

So, if humans in Ireland can benefit from the effects of CBD oil, can your canine friend benefit too? The answer is yes. The CBD marketplace can be daunting to potential customers, and so this article aims to answer all the questions you may have regarding CBD oil for dogs in Ireland.

Can You Give CBD Oil to Dogs?

CBD oil for dogs is growing in popularity in Ireland with owners who are looking for alternative health treatment for their pets. Dogs suffer as humans do with many health issues and diseases such as arthritis, pain, epilepsy and various skin disorders.

CBD products are perfectly safe for your pets once you ensure the Cannabidiol (CBD) you are buying is of high quality, without THC and the company can provide a large number of positive reviews from customers.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

The length of time it takes for CBD oil to take effect on your dog will vary depending on the dog, the health complaint and the quality of the CBD oil also. In my own experience with giving CBD to a pet dog it only took 1-2 weeks to see an improvement. This of course will vary and will also depend on how consistent you are being in administering CBD to your animal.

I have often heard from people that CBD did not work for their pets or that they saw no benefit to the product they bought. This can be down to buying a low-quality oil but more often than not it is the dosage and the consistency in supplying this dosage to your dog that is the reason it did not work.

A lot of people can be lazy or forgetful with supplements and CBD is no different. This blog highlights the importance of consistent treatment of your dog in Ireland.

I can’t stress enough how necessary it is to be consistent when you decide to start giving your dog CBD oil. The dog will then be getting a consistent supplement level as CBD will be slowly building up in their system. Giving CBD for two days and then stopping for two and starting again may happen to help with minor conditions.

But, more often than not to see real improvements a consistent dose is needed (at least for the first few weeks). Ingredients such as hemp need as much consistency as general medications to ensure they have to time to build up inside the body. Blog sites have much anecdotal evidence of CBD oil helping pets regain their normal daily function following many days of seizures. If results like this can be achieved it is certainly worth this natural shot!

How Often Do You Give CBD to Your Dog?

As mentioned above…consistency is key here! Another question frequently asked is, can I give CBD oil to my dog everyday?

The answer is yes you can. You can give your dog the CBD every day and simply stick to the same number of drops for the first while. If you feel after a few weeks that your pet needs a bit more or you want to try this out then you can increase the drops however the original dose may be enough, time will tell.

The easiest way to give your dog their CBD supplement is to add it to their food either in the morning or evening whichever suits you most. Mix the oil in so that they don’t get a strong taste in one spot of their food as this may put them off. Another option is to break a dog treat in half and drop oil into the centre of the treat so the dog can eat it quickly without noticing a taste.

Is CBD Oil for Dogs different than for Humans?

CBD oil for dogs is no different than CBD oil for humans, you will be happy to find out. The only difference is the way in which you administer the oil to the dog and the strength of the CBD oil you give them.

Dogs and other animals do not need as high a CBD concentration as humans in general however larger dogs may need higher strength oil/ higher dose than smaller dogs. Some smaller dogs with more debilitating health conditions may also need the same higher strength oil/ higher dose so it really depends on both the size of the dog and what you are treating them for.

As a general rule of thumb for dogs 2.5% (250mg) CBD oil or 5% (500mg) CBD oil is high enough in terms of oil.

5% (500mg) CBD oil could be more suitable for larger dogs or dogs with more severe symptoms in terms of pain and inflammation.

2.5% (3000mg) CBD oil is suitable for all and is a great place to start with your pet. Read on to find our more about using CBD oil for your dog and even your cat.

Are there any Side Effects for Dogs?

Generally I have not seen any side effects when administering CBD oil to my own dogs but there was one exception. I have an older dog with an itchy skin condition his whole life due to an unknown allergy.

I used CBD oil on two separate occasions to help his skin however he developed diarrhoea each time so I did not administer it any more. This dog has always had a very sensitive bowel since he was a puppy so the CBD oil did not agree with his digestive system.

Since then I have used Hemp oil topically to treat the area and this has helped. So, be mindful that CBD oil will not suit all dogs just as it may not suit all people. Fatigue, nausea, diarrhoea are other side effects noted by researchers online but as always side effects do not occur in every case.

If you are unsure about giving CBD to your pet please contact your vet.

How Much Should I Give to My Pet With Anxiety?

As with humans, anxiety in dogs does not require high strength CBD oil or in other words a high concentration of CBD. Thankfully relatively low strength CBD oil is sufficient to relieve a pet’s anxiousness. In my own experience a 2% – 5% CBD oil concentrate is enough to treat anxiety in a dog, or cat!

Of course there are other factors to consider like the severity of the anxiety and the size of the animal. The amount of CBD oil you use should always start at a low point and slowly increase if you feel necessary, regardless of the severity and size of the animal.

All dogs and cats should be given the chance to adjust to the new supplement in their diet and build CBD oil up in their system over a period of time. That is why consistency with CBD oil is key!

How About Cats?

Yes, cats can also take CBD oil…

Like humans and dogs, cats also have an Endocannabinoid system which interacts with cannabinoids. It is an easy addition to strong tasting wet food that is typically given to cats. Or even dropped over dried food too.
